APGAR Score

So, what is Apgar score?  Why is it used? These are the common questions which arise in the minds of the parents who are blessed with kids for the first time. So, this article about Apgar score will tell the importance of Apgar score and its usage.

The Apgar score was developed in 1952 by an anesthesiologist named Virginia Apgar. Apgar score is the very first test which is given to a new born. The test was designed to quickly calculate a newborn’s physical condition and to conclude need for extra medical or emergency care.
A - Appearance (skin coloration)
P - Pulse (heart rate)
G - Grimace (medically known as "reflex irritability")
A - Activity and muscle tone
R - Respiration (breathing rate and effort)
The test is usually given twice to the baby: once at 1 minute after birth and again at 5 minutes after birth. The above 5 factors are evaluated and are cored in the scale from 0 to 2.

Factor       0      1       2
Appearance Skin is pale blue Body is pink and the extremities blue in color Entire body is pink
Pulse Not breathing Beats per minute less than 100 Beats per minute greater than 100
Grimace No reaction Lacking strength to cryCough, sneeze, vigorous cry
Activity Muscles are loose and floppy If some muscle tone If there is active motion
Respiration Not breathing Slow and irregular Cries well
The Apgar rating is based on the total score of 1 to 10. The higher the score, the better the baby is doing after birth.
A score of 7, 8 or 9 is normal and is a sign that the newborn is in good health. A score of 10 is very unusual.

TANGLED MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE

Just close your eyes for a moment, forget everything and think of our UNIVERSE
What is it?
Where has it come from?
How is it balancing in an empty space? Gently raise your head and gaze towards the beautiful dark sky, isn't it amazing?

Let us know about one of the mysteries of the universe this week. Let us start by asking question to ourselves. Do aliens exist? First think, are we considered as aliens to other life forms in this gigantic universe? Let us explore and unravel the mysteries of our universe.
Do you think our sun is stable?
The answer is no.
There are many galaxies existing in space. Ours is just one among them. many solar systems like ours. Our galaxy name is Milky Way. It looks like a pan cake with a bulge in the middle when it is viewed from an edge.
But when it is seen from top it looks A galaxy is a combination of stars, planets, dust and gases. The galaxy consists of like a windmill.

Milky Way galaxy (our galaxy) mainly consists of a bulge at center which is composition of dust gases and stars.

And it has four major arms and several shorter arms. Our nearest star sun is present in one of the shortest arms.
The name of the arm is Orion

The Sun is not present in the center of galaxy, it’s far out towards the galaxy’s edge. So we cannot view all the stars and the bulge in the middle of the galaxy. The earth moves around the sun called as rotation. Sun and the other stars move around the center of the galaxy. We are moving at an
average velocity of 828,000 km/hr
It is estimated that sun takes 220 million years to make one complete orbit around the Milky Way.
Friends we have come to know about the galaxy, the position of the sun in the galaxy and how the sun is moving around the center of galaxy with a great velocity which we cannot even phantom.
Now, after reading all this do you feel yourself rotating?

CHANGE ~ Let it start with you.

When we consider the present scenario of this 21st century, people often speak about the SYSTEM and the faults in the SYSTEM. Here “system” is sometimes the Government, sometimes it is the mentality of other people, at times it can even be the constitution of your own country. The meaning of the “system” changes for every discussion. Here at every point of our discussion, we do the same thing i.e. blaming others. Even then we don’t stop with it. We start praising ourselves and our beloved ones and slowly the discussion tends to turns towards our enemies and we relate the negatives to them and start blaming them. The most pitiable scene here in the above mentioned situation is that this sort of mentality is not confined to only illiterates but is also prevalent among highly educated professionals. There are many reasons for it, few of them can be jealousy, ego, inferiority complex etc... Here at last we end up with happiness as we already defended our rivals with our words in their absence. The word “system” which is the starting point of discussion is all left alone. One thing that we can observe in every such discussion is that, the person who is discussing on the “system” excludes himself from it, as if that is a group of people talking or discussing, they exclude themselves.
Why is this happening??
Aren't we the citizens of our country?
Aren't we responsible for any of the misdeeds happening?
Aren't we not capable enough for serving our own nation and mankind?
Then why aren't we including ourselves in our own discussion.
Yes, you know the reason. What’s on your mind is absolutely correct.
Because when you include yourself in the discussion you are the first and foremost person to get blamed. We know that we are heading towards at a wrong track in case of the public issues and a bit selfish as we do not follow all the rules and regulations kept by the government. Oh! Is this a big mistake if we don’t follow the government’s rules in every aspect both in terms of money and discipline? Until our ideas and thoughts are confined only to ourselves this might come across as a minor problem. But when it is treated at a global level that makes all the difference. But we don’t do it because if we do so we should be on the right side which is highly difficult. One more additional thing we do is blaming the SYSTEM and others who are doing the same things like us. This is not the duty of the government or God nor any other super power to set all the bugs in the system. This can be done by us. I am not joking nor kidding. Yes, you can set these errors. The only thing you should do is be cautious at every small activity you are doing. This can be as small as throwing a banana peel in a public place or not getting a pollution check done for your bike. This also can be as big as illegal acquisition of government land. If you are perfect and you are good enough then the CHANGE begins from you.
There is no other solution for it rather than individual change. When every individual accept it as their problem and are sincere at their deeds, then that’s for sure the whole system will be modified accordingly. We often also quote corruption as one of the main problems. As the sound is generated when both the hands are clapped in the same manner corruption is also done when one person offers money willingly or unwillingly to another person or organization. This corruption can also be vanished if there is no person in the world to offer money to the other who is demanding it. Even for this global problem the solution starts with the CHANGE in you. Never blame others whenever you aren't perfect. CHANGE in every individual can CHANGE the whole nation. An individual CHANGE can lead to a nations change.

“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

“Very often a change of self is needed more than a change of scene.”

THE CHOCOLATE CORNER

We are back with an interesting and of course a sweet post.
This post is all about chocolate.
Do u know where chocolate comes from?
Well, if you don’t, it’s time to know that it grows on a tree! Yes, it grows on a tropical tree named Theobroma Cacao which is most commonly known as Cacao. The taste of the cacao pods grown on these trees is completely different from the actual chocolate you eat. They taste bitter! To enhance the flavor and texture, the cacao beans are fermented at first. Later they are dried, roasted and ground to fine powder. This is how cocoa powder is made. At last the powder is liquefied which is called as chocolate liquor and poured into moulds along with the required flavors to make a chocolate bar.
Chocolates are available in three basic types namely milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate.

Milk Chocolate:

Dark Chocolate:

White Chocolate:

Though there are many chocolates available in the market, they are made by increasing or decreasing the cocoa content to these basic types. The white chocolate does not contain any cocoa powder in it. It is solely made of cocoa butter. According to the industry standards, a white chocolate must contain a minimum of 20% cocoa butter, otherwise it cannot be considered as white chocolate. In the milk chocolate, along with the cocoa butter and chocolate liquor, dry milk solids are added. The dark chocolate mainly contains the chocolate liquor which tastes a bit bitter.
One more interesting fact about chocolate is that it is called as an instant energy booster because of the rich carbohydrate content present in it. Chocolate which is very well known for its taste is also good for health. Dark chocolate is very good for health when compared to milk and white chocolates. It lowers the blood pressure which ultimately reduces the risk of heart diseases. Irrespective of age and gender, people from all over the world like to eat chocolate. Chocolate flavor can be added to almost any food item to enhance its taste. It enhances the taste of any food item including ice creams, biscuits, cakes etc. Now-a-days chocolates are available in different flavors in the market. These flavors include different types of fruits, caramel, elachi etc.
